Populism At The Periphery And Cultural Constituencies/Counterstances

About

The course will discuss the actuality of the political-economic and cultural sphere of the European capitalist periphery, focusing at the modalities and criticisms of various global-local-here-there "populist" phenomena. Thomas Frank, in some interviews related to his book "Brief History of Antipopulism", points to the targeted misuse of the term "populism" which is particularly characteristic of the era of brutalization of political discourse. Since the term is also related to "cultural wars" that occur as a compensation for the absence of more radical ideological conflicts (and thus as a smokescreen for some different horizons of the social imagination), the discussion will search for cultural-political responses both to some (pre)conditions of political conflict as well as to imposed concepts and positions of this battle of windmills against windmills (that is, advanced versions of Don Quixote under the more popular title: Let's Make Spain Great Again!). The practical goal of the course is the translation and adaptation of the proposal of the Law On The Culture At The Capitalist Periphery into as many peripheral languages as possible (including Eastern Euro-English).
